Botox is a sterile, purified protein produced in a laboratory from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It minimizes the severity of forehead creases, crow’s feet and neck bands through a series of injections. Botox may also be used to treat excessive sweating. Depending on the severity of the creases you may need more or less product (or units). Potential candidates for Botox injections include men and women who are in good health, have realistic expectations, and are looking to improve their facial appearance.

Botox is injected in small amounts into the facial muscle responsible for the wrinkle. The toxin paralyzes the muscle, temporarily reducing or eliminating the previous skin crease while also avoiding new skin creasing. Discomfort is minimal and patients will begin to see the effect in five to seven days, though the maximum effect can take up to two weeks. There is no downtime associated with the Botox injection and patients are able to immediately return to work and other normal activities. Results are not permanent but tend to last between three to six months for most individuals.

How long does a BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure Take?

The entire procedure takes no longer than 10 minutes. There’s no recovery time needed. You’re ready to get on with your day! In rare cases, effects following procedure include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects. Within days, you will see an improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows that can last up to 4 months.
