Among our breadth of day spa and med spa services we offer at our Fort Collins spa, you’ll find PhotoFacial IPL™ listed. In today’s post, we’ll be examining PhotoFacial treatment, PhotoFacial benefits, and much more as we take a close look at the particulars which comprise this facial treatment type designed to help you see beautiful changes in your complexion.

What Is PhotoFacial IPL™?

Generally speaking, this IPL facial treatment is a process designed to do away with the negative impact of sun damage, rosacea, large pores, hyperpigmentation, and the like. PhotoFacial IPL treatment work to better skin tone without being invasive or forcing a client to be out of commission for days on end just to get an effective facial treatment. This treatment, which is also referred to as IPL laser treatment or photorejuvenation, has a long list of benefits to go along with it, so keep reading to find out what you can experience while receiving this facial treatment technique.

More specifically, this is a 30-minute treatment we offer at Xanadu Med Spa where our clients can receive the latest innovation in modern dermatology. Patients see blotchy, often red skin transform into a radiant, natural glow. Through a procedure in which intense pulses of light are emitted to penetrate deep into the skin, PhotoFacial treatment triggers collagen and blood vessels below the epidermis to tighten, thereby reducing visible age lines and redness.

A Minimum Of Discomfort

One of the chief virtues of the IPL™ PhotoFacial treatment is that the procedure only requires enduring a small degree of pain. Occasionally, redness and swelling do occur right after the treatment, but such a change should dissipate in a short amount of time. Most often, clients experience a gradual change in skin tone over the first few weeks following a treatment.

Who Is An Ideal Candidate?

As we alluded to above, one of the many PhotoFacial benefits is that the treatment can affect positive change for a variety of skin issues. For people who have large pores, wrinkles, discolored skin, or if your skin is sun-damaged or blotchy, the treatment might be worth your consideration.

Further, another PhotoFacial benefit is the fact that it requires so little time on the “treatment table,” and likewise requires no recovery time. Most all of us lead very busy lives, and even if we aren’t particularly busy on a given day, it’s always nice to be able to get along with the rest of your day instead of sacrificing nearly all of it for a high-quality facial!

On a different note, we should warrant that some people who have deeply tanned or dark skin can sometimes experience complications after receiving this treatment. If you have a question about this, don’t hesitate to reach out to us so we can discuss your best option. Conversely, those with elastic, light-toned skin are ideal candidates for this treatment, as they can typically receive the host of benefits that can come from PhotoFacial IPL. Among such benefits are eliminating discolorations, improving skin texture, constricting pore size, and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Intense Pulsed Light Treatment (that’s what IPL stands for, in case you were wondering!) promotes collagen production, which is a protein your body produces that fills in wrinkles, which has the net effect of improving your skin tone to make it more supple and smooth!

The IPL Facial Treatment Itself

We recommend five IPL photorejuvenation treatments, administered once every three weeks, for an ideal outcome. As you receive each procedure and time passes, you’ll see a gradual yet steady perfecting of your skin’s tone. When receiving the PhotoFacial IPL treatment at Xanadu, you’ll don some protective eyewear to protect your eyes from the Intense Pulsed Light. Then a surprisingly pleasant yet cool gel is rubbed over the treatment area in order to cool your skin to make it more accepting of the upcoming procedure. Then the light is applied to a given area, which will cause a warm sensation. Most patients feel it, but almost everyone agrees that it is more like the “snap” of a rubber band than any sort of significant pain.

Depending on how your body reacts to the treatment, your specialist may apply ice on the treatment area to alleviate any swelling or redness that might appear for the short-term. Though most treatments last in the range of 30 minutes, some take less time and some take more.

Recovery

Because PhotoFacial IPL treatments are used to combat a wide range of skin issues, we aren’t able to precisely say how long of a recovery time there will be for each specific case. That being said, there is usually very little to no skin damage that occurs during treatment. Any redness that you see usually goes away in a matter of minutes or hours, although a small minority of patients might see the redness persist for over a week. For patients who are receiving this procedure as an acne facial, recovery times might be longer, though the results are often dramatically positive.

As is the case with nearly every med spa facial treatment technique, we recommend avoiding the sun for a few days after the treatment, while being sure to wear an ample amount of sunblock for at least a few weeks (here in Colorado with our altitude, that’s always a good idea).
