To help you achieve the best possible results from your HydraFacial at Xanadu Med Spa in Fort Collins, please follow these simple pre-treatment guidelines. Proper preparation ensures your skin is calm, balanced, and ready to receive the full benefits of the treatment’s active serums and boosters.
Discontinue Retinoids and Exfoliants (3–5 Days Before)
Avoid using retinoids (Retin-A, tretinoin, adapalene, etc.), glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or any other exfoliating products for at least 3–5 days prior to your appointment. These ingredients can make your skin more sensitive to treatment.
Avoid Facial Waxing, Peels, and Laser Treatments (7 Days Before)
Please refrain from waxing, chemical peels, or laser procedures on the treatment area for at least one week before your HydraFacial. Your skin should not be irritated, peeling, or inflamed at the time of your appointment.
Hold Off on Botox® or Filler (48 Hours Before)
If you’ve recently had injectables, wait at least 48 hours before scheduling your HydraFacial to allow the products to settle properly. Likewise, avoid facials for 48 hours after your injectables unless otherwise advised by your provider.
Stop Using Acne Medications or Topicals (5–7 Days Before)
Discontinue topical acne treatments containing benzoyl peroxide, isotretinoin, or similar active ingredients for 5–7 days prior to treatment to avoid irritation. If you’re on prescription acne medication, consult your provider before your appointment.
Avoid Direct Sun Exposure and Tanning (3–5 Days Before)
Do not tan or spend extended time in the sun leading up to your HydraFacial. Sunburned or inflamed skin cannot be treated safely. Always wear SPF 30+ when outdoors.
Shaving Guidelines (Day Before or Morning Of)
If you wish to shave, do so the day before your HydraFacial to prevent sensitivity. Avoid shaving immediately before your appointment, especially if your skin is prone to irritation.
Arrive with Clean, Bare Skin
Please arrive with no makeup, sunscreen, or heavy skincare products on your face. Clean skin ensures better treatment penetration and allows your provider to accurately assess your skin’s condition.
Communicate Skin Changes or Concerns
If you’ve recently started new skincare products, medications, or experienced any changes in your skin (like increased sensitivity, breakouts, or dryness), please inform your provider before treatment. We’ll tailor your HydraFacial accordingly to keep your skin safe and comfortable.
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your HydraFacial. Hydrated skin responds better to treatment and enhances your glow.

Keep Your Skin Clean and Protected
Avoid washing your face or applying makeup for at least 6 hours after your HydraFacial. This allows the powerful serums, peptides, and antioxidants to fully absorb into your skin. When you do cleanse, use a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser and lukewarm water.
Protect Your Skin from the Sun
Your skin will be especially receptive after your treatment — which means it can also be more sensitive to UV exposure. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily and avoid prolonged sun exposure or tanning beds for at least 48 hours.
Skip Exfoliation for a Few Days
Your skin has already been deeply exfoliated during your HydraFacial, so avoid using scrubs, retinols, glycolic acids, or any exfoliating products for at least 48–72 hours post-treatment.
Don't Irritate the Skin
Do not wax, use depilatories, or use any exfoliating treatments. Avoid using over-the-counter acne products or any products containing retinol and tretinoin for 2 weeks following your appointment.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Drink plenty of water and apply a medical-grade moisturizer or hydrating serum twice daily. We recommend formulas containing hyaluronic acid, peptides, or ceramides to help lock in your skin’s new moisture barrier and prolong that dewy glow.
Avoid Heat and Sweating for 24 Hours
Skip saunas, hot yoga, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise for a day after your treatment. Excess heat and sweat can temporarily irritate freshly treated skin.
Use Only Gentle, Recommended Skincare Products
After your HydraFacial, your skin is highly receptive to active ingredients — which means it’s the perfect time to nourish it with the right products.
