Fort Collins Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Skin resurfacing is a specific type of skin rejuvenation that involves removing layers of built-up skin cells and debris, accelerating your skin’s natural process of desquamation. For example, a chemical peel causes this outer layer of skin to peel away, revealing the fresher and smoother layer underneath. Microdermabrasion treatments use tiny abrasive crystals to exfoliate dead skin cells for a brighter, smoother complexion. The depth of resurfacing determines the results and downtime. Skin resurfacing treatments that only remove epidermal cells, such as a superficial chemical peel or microdermabrasion treatment, have minimal downtime and risk. These skin treatments can make the skin appear smoother and more radiant. However, to get rid of wrinkles you need skin resurfacing treatments that go deeper into the dermal layer. These generally involve more downtime.

All resurfacing treatments can address a wide variety of skin imperfections, including lines and wrinkles, discoloration, acne scars, and uneven skin tone. We have a variety of skin rejuvenation treatment options for you at Xanadu Med Spa. Ready to learn more? Microdermabrasion Treatments

Microdermabrasion uses little micro-crystals to help remove any dead, dry, or unwanted skin. It brings out your skin to look healthier. It exfoliates and rejuvenates to help brighten your skin, cleans out pores, and helps your skin look refreshed. A medical-grade microdermabrasion treatment is the strongest way to exfoliate and reduce hyperpigmentation when combined with a chemical peel for a more advanced treatment.

Hydradermabrasion Treatments

Hydradermabrasion is a relatively new term in skin care. Spa facials have been around for many years, then came microdermabrasion, now the next step up is hydradermabrasion. Hydradermabrasion works very much like microdermabrasion because it uses a rough tip to break up the skin’s surface, and a vacuum sucks away the debris. Unlike microdermabrasion, hydradermabrasion is wet – while the tip is breaking up the skin, and the vacuum is sucking away the debris, a skin care solution is applied to the skin. There are several types of hydradermabrasion on the market today. HydraFacial is one of the leaders in hydradermabrasion and the choice of Xanadu Med Spa.

Dermaplaning Treatments

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a 10-gauge scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. Sounds scary, right? It really isn’t, as long as you’re in the right hands. “Dermaplaning requires handling a very sharp blade that’s used in surgeries, but I’ve been doing it for many years now and have never had a problem,” says Xanadu Aesthetician Rhonda.

Dermaplaning treatments are popular in the entertainment industry, specifically among models and actresses. Why? In addition to providing incredible exfoliation, this skin rejuvenation treatment also eliminates that annoying peach fuzz that cakes up in makeup and can be enhanced by harsh production lighting and high-definition cameras. “Dermaplaning removes all the dead skin cells and also the facial hair, leaving the surface very smooth,” explains Rhonda. Dermaplaning also allows for greater penetration of skincare products and creates a flawless canvas for makeup to glide on smoothly. In fact, cosmetic dermatologists often use dermaplaning to help prepare skin for more intrusive procedures such as laser treatments and chemical peels. Call Xanadu today for a dermaplaning treatment in Fort Collins.

Micro-Needling

Automated Microneedling (also known as Derma-Rolling, Collagen Induction Therapy, or CIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars, and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with the appearance of softer wrinkles. Microneedling also creates superficial micro-channels which allow topical gels, creams, and serums to be absorbed more effectively into the skin.  Learn more about the Collagen PIN for the best outcomes in micro-needling at Xanadu.

Want a next level service?  Try RF Microneedling!  Whereas traditional microneedling is good for slower and more subtle rejuvenation. If you are looking for improved results, RF microneedling is recommended for enhancing the overall tone and texture of the skin as it better facilitates the production of collagen and elastin

Chemical Peel Treatments

Chemical peels are topical solutions used to refresh and rejuvenate the skin through the exfoliation process. Peel formulas work by removing dead, dry cells on the surface of the skin, leaving softer, smoother skin behind. There are many different formulations of chemical peels, allowing for customization of treatment to a patient’s specific skin type, needs and desired results.  See below for some of the types of chemical peels we provide at Xanadu Med Spa.  Confused about what is right for you?  Ask for a complimentary consultation and one of our trained providers will help you create a customized treatment plan.

Q & A

Chemical Peels FAQs

  • What happens during a chemical peel?

Before getting a chemical peel, some patients need to follow a pre-peel skin care plan to prep the skin. This plan can improve results and reduce potential side effects. Your provider will tell you whether this is necessary.

On the day of your peel, you will first be prepped for the treatment. This includes cleansing your skin thoroughly. If you will have a deep peel, you may receive topical numbing.

After you are prepped, your provider will apply the peel quickly and evenly. Your provider will watch your skin carefully to remove the peel at just the right time. With a deep peel, the skin is treated one small section at a time.

After the peel comes off, your skin will be treated as needed. Patients who get a medium peel may need cool compresses followed by a lotion or cream to soothe their skin. If you have a deep peel, you will have a wound that may require a surgical dressing.

What must I do after getting a chemical peel?

All peels that a med spa professional performs require some at-home care. Expect to go home with a post care kit loaded with the essential products and ingredients to ensure optimal results.  The at home care is almost as important as the procedure itself.

What to expect after a chemical peel

  • Refreshing or lunchtime peel

    • Healing time: 1 to 7 days. Skin will be red. After the redness disappears, scaling may develop, which lasts 3 to 7 days.

    • At-home care: Serum or cream applied until the skin heals, followed by daily use of sunscreen.

    • When to wear makeup: Usually immediately after the peel, but sometimes the next day.

    • Follow-up visit: No. However, 3 to 5 peels may be necessary to give you the desired results. These peels may be repeated every 2 to 5 weeks.

  • Medium peel

    • Healing time: 7 to 14 days. Skin will be red and swollen. Swelling worsens for 48 hours. Eyelids may swell. Blisters can form and break open. Skin crusts and peels off in 7 to 14 days.

    • At-home care: Daily soaks for a specified period. Apply ointment after each soak. Take an antiviral medication for 10 to 14 days. Apply lotion or cream. Total avoidance of the sun until skin heals.

    • When to wear makeup: After 5 to 7 days, you can wear camouflaging makeup.

    • Follow-up visit: Yes. Follow-up visit required after the procedure.

  • Deep peel
    • Healing time: 14 to 21 days. Area will be bandaged.

    • At-home care: 4 to 6 daily soaks while healing. For 14 days, apply ointment after each soak. After 14 days, apply thick moisturizer as directed. Take an antiviral medication for 10 to 14 days. Total sun avoidance for 3 to 6 months.

    • When to wear makeup: At least 14 days before you can apply makeup.

    • Follow-up visit: Yes. The next day, the provider will want to see you. Several follow-up visits are required during the first week.

    • To help their patients get the best results, we would also like to share these tips:

      • Use the moisturizer as directed to keep your skin moist and supple. If your skin dries and cracks, it can scar.

      • If your skin burns, itches, or swells, contact your dermatologist. Rubbing or scratching skin treated with a chemical peel can cause an infection.

      • Do not use a tanning bed or other type of indoor tanning. Your skin will not heal properly.

      • After your skin heals, apply sunscreen every day. This will help you maintain results.

Is there downtime?

After a medium or deep peel, you will have downtime. A deep chemical peel requires recuperation at home for 2 to 3 weeks.

When will I see the results?

Once your skin heals, you will see the results. Healing time ranges from 1 day for a refreshing or lunchtime peel to 14 days or longer for a deep peel. To get the results you seek from a refreshing peel or lunchtime peel, you may need to have 3 to 5 peels.

How long will the results last?

Most results are not permanent because our skin continues to age. If you have lots of sun-damaged skin or precancerous skin growths called AKs, you will likely continue to see new spots and growths on your skin.

What are the possible side effects?

In the hands of a doctor who has experience with chemical peels, side effects tend to be mild. Some patients develop:

  • Persistent redness that may last for months.

  • Temporary darkening of the skin.

  • Lighter skin color (medium and deep peels).

  • Scarring (very rare when peel performed by a professional).

If serious side effects occur, it is often because the patient did not follow the provider’s instructions. Your risk for developing an infection or scarring increase dramatically if you:

  • Fail to protect your skin from the sun.

  • Fail to care for your wound as instructed.

  • Scratch the treated skin or pick off a scab.

  • Apply makeup before your skin heals.

  • Don’t heed your provider’s advice and use a tanning bed or other type of indoor tanning.

When is it safe to have another chemical peel?

To maintain results, you can repeat mild and medium chemical peels. Your provider can tell you how often you can have a repeat treatment. A person can have only one deep peel.
