Microblading/Permanent Makeup in Windsor, CO

Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup treatment that involves the tattooing of the eyebrows. The thought of tattooing makeup may feel daunting, but the results are only semi-permanent and the procedure is surprisingly easy and pain-free.

Alternatives to microblading including traditional eyebrow pencils, gels, and pomades can be tedious, time-consuming, and expensive in the long run. In fact, makeup is known to rub or sweat off and often requires multiple touch-ups, especially if you’re partying or just walking outside on a hot summer’s day.

Microblading is a hassle-free alternative to more traditional eyebrow applicators and boasts a long list of impressive benefits for anyone willing to give it a try. So, put that brow pencil down and enjoy all the benefits that microblading has to offer.

Based in Fort Collins, our team of licensed Windsor estheticians at Xanadu Med Spa are fully trained and qualified to perform these impressive microblading treatments.

What Is Microblading?

Microblading involves the semi-permanent tattooing of the eyebrows.

Most tattoo treatments use a tattoo gun that injects ink deep into the dermis. However, microblading works a little differently. The microblading treatment uses tiny blades to implant pigment and natural-looking hair strokes under the skin that gives the effect of natural hair.

Microblading vs. Tattooing

In short, when injected into the skin, tattoos are a permanent feature, whereas microblading is not.

Traditional tattoos use specific ink particles that are designed to last permanently deep within the skin’s layers, while microblading involves the application of pigment to the superficial layer of the skin. This means that, after a certain period, the pigment in the brows implanted via microblading will eventually fade.

When first injected into the skin, the particles in tattoo pigment are much brighter than that of microblading. What’s more, as the pigment in tattoos starts to fade, it gives off a bluish tinge. On the other hand, microblading pigment tends to lighten as it fades, giving a more natural appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microblading?

Microblading is the perfect cosmetic treatment for anyone with normal skin who is looking to enhance their brow area.

In fact, microblading can even stimulate hair growth, so this may be a good idea for any individuals who are looking for fuller brows and are having difficulty in growing them naturally.

Who Is a Not an Ideal Candidate for Microblading?

People suffering from sensitive skin are not the ideal candidates for microblading treatment. Skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and rosacea involve the irritation, dryness, and shedding of the skin. Individuals suffering from these conditions are advised not to undergo microblading as the pigment may not stay in the skin’s dermis layer for long.

What’s more, microblading may exacerbate symptoms of sensitive skin, so it’s advised not to undergo this treatment if you suffer from this skin type.

We highly recommend pregnant women wait until after they’ve given birth to get this treatment done.

Can I Use Microblading for Oily Skin?

Having oily skin can cause issues for people wanting to undergo the microblading procedure. When the skin expulses too much oil and sebum, it makes it difficult for the pigment to stick in the dermal layers for an extended period of time.

Also, those with oily acne-prone skin are recommended against undergoing the microblading treatment as it can exacerbate inflammation and symptoms of cystic acne.

Is Microblading Painful?

Microblading can cause slight pain and discomfort. How painful the treatment is greatly depends on the individual’s own pain tolerance.

Before treatment, an esthetician will apply numbing cream to the brow area to ensure any pain or discomfort is minimal. This layer of numbing cream will be reapplied every 10 to 15 minutes or whenever the client feels it is necessary.

Many patients compare the pain felt during microblading as similar to the pain experienced during waxing. It may be slightly uncomfortable but definitely not unbearable, and probably nothing that you haven’t experienced before at the salon!

How Long Will Results Last?

As mentioned previously, how long your results last depends largely on your skin type. Those with oily skin may have to repeat the treatment more than those with normal skin.

On average, results usually last between 1 to 3 years. After the first 12 months, patients usually notice that the pigment in the brow begins to fade. 2-3 years from your initial appointment, most of the microblading pigment will have completely faded. We recommend organizing touch-up appointments with us to maintain the desired results.

Maintenance Appointments

As the semi-permanent makeup gradually fades over time, many patients decide to schedule a touch-up or a maintenance appointment.

We recommend scheduling a follow-up microblading appointment between 12 and 18 months after your first appointment.

Keeping your micro-bladed brows up to date is the key to keeping them looking fuller and natural for longer.

What if I Want to Change My Brows after Treatment?

The unfortunate law of the beauty world is that trends come and go. Some patients express concern about choosing a certain style or shape of the brow that’s currently in fashion for that same style to look more than undesirable within a year.

If this is a concern of yours, we highly recommend opting for a softer, smaller brow that can easily be filled in to match the current brow trends as they come and go.

Can Microblading Damage My Eyebrows?

When deciding whether or not microblading is for them, some patients express concern over the potential damage the treatment can cause to their eyebrows.

When done correctly by a trained professional, microblading poses little to no risk of damage to the brow area. A poorly trained esthetician may tattoo too deeply into the skin or not deep enough at all which can lead to scarring and undesirable results.

At Xanadu Med Spa, all of our estheticians are fully trained and qualified to carry out the microblading procedure. We also only use the highest quality products so you can rest assured that your eyebrows are in safe and capable hands.

What to Expect from Microblading

At Xanadu Med Spa, we believe it’s important that our clients know exactly what they’re in for before undergoing any treatment.

Before Treatment

If you’re a microblading first-timer, the thought of having semi-permanent makeup tattooed on the eyebrows can be quite scary. That’s why, at Xanadu Med Spa, we offer all our Windsor clients a free consultation to ask any questions they may have before their appointment. You’ll also have the chance to tell our team exactly what brow shape, style, and color you’re hoping to achieve so that you get your exact desired results.

We recommend not grooming the brows for at least 4 weeks before the appointment to allow our estheticians to shape and define the eyebrows more accurately and effectively.

If you’re taking any blood-thinning medication, we ask that you speak to your healthcare provider before undergoing treatment. Please do not take any aspirin or drink caffeine the day before the appointment as these can have a thinning effect on the blood.

If you’re on antibiotics, you should not undergo any microblading procedure. Antibiotics can change the pigment of the hair color, so we recommend waiting for 14 days after your last dose before having this treatment done.

During Treatment

During your treatment, a member of our team will apply numbing cream to the eyebrow area to minimize any pain and discomfort.

After drawing the outline of the brows, the esthetician will fill in the brow area with hair strokes and colored pigment that best matches your natural brow color.

After Treatment

Straight after the initial treatment, your eyebrows may seem a little too dark. This is completely normal, but the dark pigment will naturally fade within 10 days to reveal the final desired color.

For the first 7 days of the healing process, we highly recommend our clients not to get their brows wet, avoid strenuous exercise that can cause sweating, and direct sunlight.

Many patients choose to apply a layer of vaseline on the eyebrows to keep them moisturized and protected from any outdoor pollutants for the first 24 hours.

How Do I Maintain the Brows after Treatment?

Microblading doesn’t eliminate the hair follicles at the root, so hair will still grow after your appointment.

Therefore, if you’re hoping to keep your brows looking groomed and styled, you’ll have to pluck or wax them whenever necessary.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of the microblading procedure depends on the size, shape, and color of your desired brows.

During your free consultation, one of our estheticians will be able to provide an estimated cost for the treatment.
